Lumbar Catheter Kit

Precision-Engineered Solution for Controlled Lumbar CSF Drainage

The Lumbar Catheter Kit by Desu is a clinically refined system designed for effective and reliable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage through the lumbar region. Suitable for use in neurosurgery, critical care, and diagnostic procedures, this kit offers the essential components needed for precise catheter placement and secure fluid diversion.

The product image clearly displays the full assembly, reflecting Desu’s commitment to transparency, ease of use, and safety. Each item in the kit serves a defined function, streamlining the procedure and supporting optimal clinical outcomes.

Kit Components

The Desu Lumbar Catheter Kit includes:

Lumbar Catheter

Inner Diameter (ID): 0.8 mm

Outer Diameter (OD): 1.6 mm

Length: 100 cm

14G Tuohy Needle

Guidewire

Fixation Tab

Each component is individually packaged and terminally sterilized, ready for direct use in surgical or intensive care settings.

Material Composition and Structural Features

Barium-Impregnated Silicone Catheter

The lumbar catheter is manufactured from barium-impregnated silicone, providing both radiopacity and biocompatibility. It is soft enough to minimize trauma to surrounding tissues but retains sufficient integrity to maintain its form during and after placement.

Tantalum Length Markings

To assist with accurate depth control, the catheter includes tantalum markings at each centimeter from the 5th to the 20th centimeter. These radiopaque markers facilitate visualization under fluoroscopy or X-ray and enhance procedural accuracy.

Drainage Port Design

The proximal end of the catheter features 24 precision-engineered drainage holes, arranged in 4 rows with 6 holes per row. This configuration allows for consistent CSF outflow while minimizing the risk of clogging and maintaining smooth internal flow dynamics.

Antibiotic-Impregnated Variant

As shown in the product image, Desu offers an antibiotic-impregnated version of the lumbar catheter, visually distinguished by its orange color.

This catheter is embedded with:

Clindamycin Hydrochloride

Rifampicin

These agents are released in a controlled manner over a 28-day period, providing localized antimicrobial protection during the critical postoperative window. This is particularly beneficial for patients at higher risk of infection or in prolonged drainage scenarios.

Guidewire and 14G Tuohy Needle

The guidewire and 14G Tuohy needle are integral to the secure and atraumatic placement of the lumbar catheter. The curved Tuohy needle facilitates subarachnoid access, while the flexible guidewire allows for smooth advancement and directional control of the catheter.

Fixation Tab

The fixation tab, also illustrated in the image, ensures that the catheter remains stable once placed, reducing the risk of accidental displacement or migration due to patient movement.

Clinical Applications

The Desu Lumbar Catheter Kit is indicated for:

Continuous or intermittent lumbar CSF drainage

Management of intracranial hypertension

Treatment of CSF leaks or pseudotumor cerebri

Post-operative monitoring and decompression

Diagnostic lumbar puncture and therapeutic CSF diversion

Its versatility makes it suitable for both adult and pediatric use in neurosurgical, neurological, and intensive care settings.
