Depus valves use a ruby ball and titanium spring mechanism in a polysulfone body, with low, medium and high fixed pressures and adjustable options, in VP and LP kits. Adjustable valves allow the pressure setting to be changed after implantation; the valve is located, read and set with the Depus Adjustment Kit, available in 3 Pressure and 5 Pressure versions.

Infection Prevention: Antibiotic-Impregnated Catheters

Infection is one of the leading risks in shunt surgery. In DESU kits the valve itself is standard; the option lies on the catheter side. Ventricular and peritoneal catheters are available antibiotic-impregnated, with the agent released in a controlled way over 28 days. These catheters are designed to help reduce the risk of shunt infection.
