Lumboperitoneal Catheter Kit

A Complete, Sterile Solution for Safe and Effective Lumboperitoneal CSF Diversion

The Lumboperitoneal Catheter Kit by Desu is a high-quality, ready-to-use medical device system designed to safely divert cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the lumbar subarachnoid space to the peritoneal cavity. Developed for the treatment of conditions such as normal pressure hydrocephalus, pseudotumor cerebri, and post-surgical CSF management, the kit combines anatomical compatibility, clear radiographic markings, and optional infection-resistant technology.

The product image clearly displays all kit components, providing a visual breakdown of the system’s simplicity and effectiveness in clinical use.

Design and Material Properties

Barium-Impregnated Silicone Construction

Both the lumbar and peritoneal catheters are made from barium-impregnated silicone, ensuring high radiopacity for intraoperative and postoperative imaging. The material is biocompatible, flexible, and designed to minimize the risk of tissue damage or mechanical collapse under physiological pressure.

Tantalum Length Markings

The lumbar catheter is marked from the 5th to the 20th centimeter, and the peritoneal catheter is marked from the 5th to the 20th centimeter. These tantalum markers support visual placement under fluoroscopy or X-ray, offering precise depth tracking for optimal insertion.

Drainage Port Configuration

Both catheters feature 24 drainage holes in total, strategically placed at the proximal end and arranged into 4 rows with 6 holes each. This design promotes consistent and efficient CSF flow while reducing the likelihood of clogging or fluid retention.

Antibiotic-Impregnated Catheter Options

Desu also provides antibiotic-impregnated variants of the lumbar and peritoneal catheters, clearly distinguished by their orange color in the visual material.

These catheters are embedded with:

Clindamycin Hydrochloride

Rifampicin

These antibiotics are released in a controlled manner over 28 days, offering localized antimicrobial activity during the critical postoperative period. This feature significantly reduces the risk of shunt-related infections and associated revision surgeries.

Guidewire and Tuohy Needle

Included in the set are a guidewire and 14G Tuohy needle, both clearly illustrated in the product image. The Tuohy needle allows for accurate and safe access to the subarachnoid space, while the guidewire supports smooth catheter placement with minimal resistance.

Fixation Tab

As visible in the image, a fixation tab is provided to ensure secure external stabilization of the catheter. This helps maintain catheter position and reduces the risk of accidental dislodgment during postoperative movement.
